October-November 2015 Newsletter

Important Information:   If you want your name on the list of attendees for an event, you MUST sign up on the web. It is the responsibly of the attendee to sign up and not the host. This will help give the host an accurate count. Also, this enables you to receive a reminder a couple of days in advance of the event.

Remember: You are not signed up until the host receives the money.

 Past Events

The Potato Patch Restaurant and the Texas Repertory Theater were cancelled because of lack of interest. Thank you Bob and Peggy Dorrill for your effort in scheduling the activity.

In June, thanks to the wonderful hosts John and Margaret Lupe, seventeen RECK members traveled to the Johnson Space Center for a full day of activities relating to space travel. We were able to see all the amazing progress made over the years by the United States with the space exploration program.

Thank you Ray and Carolyn Landry for a very interesting day at the Federal Reserve. The attendees received money as their souvenir, but it was shredded and put in a small container. Everyone also enjoyed the fabulous lunch experience at Tony’s.

Blue Bonnet Wine Trail

The grapes are harvested and it’s wine tasting time. The Texas Department of Agriculture has designated October as Texas Wine Month. To celebrate the event RECK will travel on a part of the Bluebonnet Wine trail. On Saturday, October 10th at 10:30, we will leave from the KUMC Outreach center for a day of food and Texas wine. The return time is between 5:00 and 6:00pm.  The cost of the trip is $63.00 per couple and $40.00 for a single. Due to circumstances beyond our control, the money for the trip must be paid in advance. If you cancel your reservation, we cannot refund your money unless there is a waiting list. This trip seems to generating a lot of interest so get your reservations in early. The money paid is for Saturday and Sunday so if you want to do a Sunday trip on your own you have already paid for it the extra day. Lunch will be on your own at Tony’s Italian Deli in Montgomery. Check out their web page to see this unbelievable selection of sandwiches, salads and desserts. Host for the event are Barb and Murray Fordree, so send your checks to Barbara Fordree at 3918 Haven Pines Dr., Kingwood Te77345. (281-361-3455). Cut off date is Sept 10 th. We have a 39 passenger bus for this event. Hope you can join us!

Neches River Cruise

The Neches has been called “The Last Wild River” in east Texas. So come take a bus ride with us to Beaumont’s Riverfront Park where we will board the Ivory Bill and enjoy a leisurely trip on this ecologically diverse Neches River in the Big Thicket National Preserve.  This comfortable open boat, the Ivory Bill, allows the crew to showcase this beautiful river with its unique ecosystem and dense bottomland forests of hardwoods and pine trees.  The Neches is home to more than 200 tree species, 47 mammals, 300 birds and many reptiles and amphibians.

On Friday, November 13, 2015, the Precinct bus will leave from at the First United Methodist Church Outreach Center at 7:45am and arriving in Beaumont by 9:45am for our 10:00am cruise. At Noon, our cruise will dock and we will walk across the street to the lovely Two Magnolias Restaurant which is tucked away inside the Art Museum of Southeast Texas. There we will enjoy a delightful buffet including salads and quiches, tea and coffee. I was advised that if anyone wants to have wine, they will have some for us free of charge – because they are not allowed to charge for wine.  I hope that is true.  lol

We have room for 35 attendees and the cost is $30 per person ($60 per couple) (this includes cruise, buffet and drinks mentioned).  Please register for this event by signing up on the RECK web page and  make your checks payable to your Host, Judy Miles, and mail to 20419 Sunny Shores Drive, Humble, TX 77346-1777. Cell: 281-381-3934 should you have any questions or concerns.  Please remember to bring a light sweater or windbreaker since November can be chilly.

The last day to sign up is November 2.  If you must cancel, cancellations must be received by October 30, 2015 by sending an e-mail to judy829@comcast.net and receiving an acknowledgement of your cancellation e-mail so you know I received it. Hope to see you there!
