June Newsletter

A Message from RECK Chairpersons:

As mentioned in an earlier newsletter the makeup of the Board of Directors will be changing and now we are pleased to announce that the transition has been completed. Barbara and Murray Fordree will serve as Chairpersons, Janet and Walt Schroeder will continue to serve as Treasure/Membership Chairpersons until December 2014, Peggy and Bob Dorrill will serve as Program Chairpersons, Judy Richeson will serve as Secretary/Newsletter Editor, Steve Mulliken will continue to fill the webmaster position until December 2014 unless a replacement is available before then. Our new officers bring experience and a fresh outlook which should serve our members well. On behalf of all members I want to thank the new Board members for their support by volunteering to guide the operations of RECK. A special thanks for their significant contributions to the wellbeing of RECK goes to Carolyn Landry, Ray Landry, Joanne Throop, Jack Throop and Ellie Mulliken who will be leaving the Board.

The website is fully operational and much improved thanks to the efforts of Steve Mulliken and our local web support provider Marcus Antenangeli, owner of Buzzingo.

We are pleased to report that a number of new members have joined RECK and we welcome them to our group of energetic retired couples. They are encouraged to become active in our group by attending events and are reminded that new members are responsible for hosting an event. If you would like to know more about hosting an event please contact Bob Dorrill at Bdorrill@aol.com or at 281-361-7874.

July Event:

Houston Astros                                                                                  July 30, 2014

Its Astros time again so put on your best Astros gear and join your RECK friends for a day at the ballpark. As we did last year, we have reserved tickets in the Club Level instead of the lower level. The Club Level features larger seats, better views and much better food. Club Level tickets are required to enter into the Club Level with its wider range of food venders. The Houston Astros will be playing the league leading Oakland Athletics so will see All Star second baseman Jose Altuve and rookie sensation George Springer lead the charge to bring the team back to performance levels of the past. It promises to be an evening of fun and fellowship. The senior discount price is$46.00 per person ($92.00 per couple).  Cancellation date is July 9, 2014.

RECK is a volunteer organization with the sole purpose of encouraging social/cultural gatherings of retired Kingwood-area couples. We believe the RECK organization is meeting that purpose by providing a social outlet for our members. As an organization we have been fortunate in the past to have members who has come forward and volunteered to keep the organization functional by offering a wide variety of events for our members.

As mentioned earlier in the Newsletter, Janet and Walt Schroder will be retiring as Treasurer Membership Chairperson at the end of December 2014. The position is fairly straight forward and does not require special skills. If you would like to learn more about this Board position and how you can support the RECK organization, please call Walt Schroeder at 281-358-1425.

RECK is also looking for someone to assume the Webmaster position. Even though it might seem very technical, the position is not one of technical expertise but one of coordination and administration. RECK website service provider Buzzingo is a full service provider, which operates and maintains the RECK website. If you would like to learn more about this opportunity to serve RECK please call Steve Mulliken at 281-360-1749.
